Met haar juwelencollectie ontregelt Louisa-Maria Ponseele de betekenis van het juweel als bekoorlijk schoonheidsaccent voor het lichaam. Vanuit haar fascinatie voor vrouwelijke ijdelheid laadt ze haar juwelen op met referenties aan het opmaakritueel voor de spiegel, aan het maniakaal wegwerken van onvolkomenheden om zich goed in zijn vel te voelen en er verleidelijk voor zichzelf en de ander uit te zien. Met een milde ironie creëert Louisa-Maria juwelen waarbij ze bijvoorbeeld gebruik maakt van in edelmetaal gegoten wattenstaafjes en zalftubes; van een lange blonde haarlok die telkens, net als een kapsel, gekamd en ‘goed gelegd’ moet worden; van stukjes wollen draad die een zachte en liefkozende streling voor het lichaam zijn en waarvan de kleuren al dan niet ‘assorti’ met de kleding gekozen kunnen worden.
Een juweel van Louisa-Maria is zo meer dan een accessoire van ijdelheid, het wordt er het symbool van. Op die manier maakt ze binnen het medium van de edelsmeedkunst een zeer persoonlijke interpretatie van wat in de schilderkunst als de kunst van het Vanitas omschreven wordt. Aan de hand van verschillende motieven worden de hoogmoedige schoonheid en het genot gecelebreerd maar wordt er tegelijk ook gewezen op hun tijdelijkheid en relativiteit. Een juweel van Louisa-Maria condenseert zo verwijzingen naar verleiding en luxe met de herinnering aan het vergankelijke van schoonheid.
With her jewellery collection, Louisa Maria Ponseele disrupts the sense of the jewel as a charming accent of beauty for the body. From her fascination with female vanity, she infuses her jewellery with references to the beauty ritual in front of the mirror, the maniac-like eliminating of imperfections meant to make one feel good and attractive to others. With mild irony, Louisa Maria creates jewellery using, for instance, swabs and ointment tubes cast in precious metal; or a long blond lock of hair that time and again has to be combed and "put in place" like a real hairdo; or bits of wool thread as a soft and loving caress the body, whose colours can be “matched” to the outfit of choice.
A jewel by Louisa Maria is in this sense more than an accessory of vanity, it becomes its symbol. In this way, she brings a very personal interpretation of what in painting is described as the art of Vanitas to the metalsmithing medium. Through various motifs, prideful beauty and pleasure are celebrated yet at the same time, their transience and relativity is pointed out. A jewel by Louisa-Maria thus condenses both references to temptation and luxury as well as the memory of ephemeral beauty.
Avec sa collection de bijoux, Louisa-Maria Ponseele pervertit l’acception selon laquelle un bijou est un accessoire de séduction. Fascinée par la coquetterie féminine, elle charge ses créations d’allusions au rituel du maquillage auquel les femmes se livrent devant le miroir, à cette obsession de vouloir masquer à tout prix la moindre imperfection pour se sentir bien dans leur peau et se plaire à elles-mêmes et aux autres. Avec une pointe d’ironie, Louisa-Maria crée des bijoux avec par exemple des cotons-tiges et tubes de fond de teint en métal précieux, une longue mèche de cheveux blonds qui, tout comme une coiffure, demande chaque jour à être soigneusement peignée et « sculptée » ou encore des touffes de laine donc la douceur est une caresse pour le corps et dont les couleurs peuvent être assorties à la tenue vestimentaire.
